The Indian 4x100m women's relay team broke the 18-year-old National record to finish in 4th position at the IAAF World Challenge in Beijing on Wednesday. The 4x100m women relay team comprising Dutee Chand, Srabani Nanda, HM Jyoti and Merlin Joseph clocked 44.03s to finish the race, breaking the 18-year-old record of 44.43s created by the quartet of Saraswati Dey, Rachita Mistry, EB Shyla and PT Usha on July 22, 1998 in Fukuoka, Japan.

Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt said the finding of 31 positive doping samples from the 2008 Beijing Olympics marked a rough point for athletics, but backed the World Anti-Doping Agency in its effort to crackdown on drug use in the sport. Thirty-one athletes from six sports could be banned from this year's Rio Olympics after failing dope tests when 454 samples were reexamined from the 2008 Games, the International Olympic Committee said on Tuesday. "It's rough in the sport," the six-times Olympic Champion told British media. "Something that's been tarnishing the sport for years." The IOC said it would begin re-testing athletes likely to take part in the Rio Games to prevent any drug cheats from competing.

Left to compete within an hour of reaching here from China, promising sprinter Dutee Chand won the gold in women's 100m sprint event in the Taiwan Open Athletics Championships on Thursday. Dutee competed in the 100m heats within an hour of reaching Taiwan from Beijing and five hours later ran the finals which she won in 11.50secs to bag the gold. Her timing was far below the Olympics qualification standard of 11.32 secs. Long jumper Ankit Sharma leapt 7.67m on his last attempt to also seal a gold medal. Dutee was part of the national record breaking women's 4x100m relay quartet which finished fourth in the IAAF World Challenge event in Beijing yesterday and she few from the Chinese capital to Taiwan where she reached two hours before the start of her event.
